EARLY VICTORY FOR THE MARCOSES!
Whether their critics admit it or not, the
multi-sectoral caravan calling for the burial of former President Ferdinand
Marcos (FM) at the Libingan ng mga Bayani is an EARLY MORAL VICTORY for heirs
of the former Chief Executive. Even if the Supreme Court has not yet decided on
the issue.
First:
The caravan, which various reports say is now in the thousands, BELIES earlier
arguments by critics that the burial will only divide the nation and the people,
further. Otherwise, participants in the caravan would be only handful.
Second: The caravan proves that more and more
people want to accord FM the respect and final resting place which every person
who has left this world deserves, REGARDLESS of all the accusations by Martial
Law victims which he and his heirs have faced, and continue to face.
Third: Related to this, the caravan is a manifestation
of the FIRM BELIEF of a lot more people in the Christian principle of
forgiveness and unconditional respect for the dead, especially now that All
Saints’ Day is fast approaching, and in the rule of law. Keep in mind, people,
opinions by various law experts categorically state that THERE IS NO LEGAL
OBSTACLE for the burial of FM at the Libingan, being a soldier and former
president.
Personally, here’s hoping that with the
caravan and the one million signatures supporting the burial at the Libingan, the
Supreme Court will finally decide on the issue, and give FM his rightful due. 30
