Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights
Cahir Richard Gordon was right in not apologizing to Leila de Lima for saying
that she had concealed Edgar Matobato’s kidnaping case to the panel.
De Lima admitted that she had known about
Matobato's kidnapping case but did not reveal it IMMEDIATELY because she didn’t
know if he had been asked about it during the hearings. She was even quoted as admitting
that: "Marami po akong notes,
na-overlook ko lang po siguro ang information na ito."
Matobato was her witness. So the point is De Lima
should have told the committee OUTRIGHT, AT ONCE, about Matobato’s kidnaping
case. Even BEFORE the hearings started. Even a non-lawyer like is fully aware
that REVELATION of the kidnaping case would have been a very vital gauge for
the credibility of Matobato in the eyes of the senators.
De Lima should be required instead to explain WHY
DIDN’T SHE DISCLOSE the kldnaping case immediately. Why did she want to ensure
first if Matobato had already been asked about it. If De Lima’s ‘NA-OVERLOOK’
logic is to be followed, then the kidnaping case would not have come out if
Maotbato had not been asked about it.
Vital PUBLIC FUNDS are being wasted, both by
Matobato and De Lima. 30
