DE LIMA NOT OFF THE HOOK YET!
A personal friend of mine has just commented
that since the House Committee on Justice has declared that they find no
evidence against her, Leila de Lima is now cleared of her alleged involvement
in the illegal drug business. I immediately replied ‘Of course, not.’
The committee DID NOT CATEGORICALLY SAY that De
Lima did not do anything wrong. Committee chair Rep. Rey Umali even said the probe
can be reopened if De Lima’s alleged lover and bribe collector Ronnie Dayan emerges
from hiding or is captured. De Lima did not prove, and to date has not managed to
prove, that the witnesses against her in the House probe had ied.
Let us also not forget that De Lima is now facing
charges for her alleged links to illegal drugs before the Department of Justice
(DOJ), the hearings of which have not started yet. The DOJ is independent of
the House of Representatives so its findings cannot be overshadowed or
nullified by that of the House.
All these are apart from various exposes on her
supposed involvement in the illegal drug trade, like her alleged acceptance of
protection money from suspected drug lord Kerwin Espinosa. The only defense De
Lima has shown to date are her words. And her words are NOT ENOUGH, and will
NEVER BE ENOUGH, to prove that she’s clean.
