A
two-term congressman and a political scientist/strategist of a popular
politician for the last 20 years both described as Leni Robredo’s invention her
claim that Bolet Banal was just her POLITICAL CLOSE-IN and nothing else.
Without
thinking for even a second, the former congressman instantly replied “Of
course, wala” when I asked him if there was such a position as political close-in.
“Close-in aide, close-in security meron. Political close-in, saang planeta galling
iyon?”
The
political scientist/strategist explained that a close-in as the ‘utusan.’ The
person who answers or makes phone calls in behalf of the politician. The person
who carries the bag or briefcase or whatever of his/her boss. If the politician
is a woman, the close-in is the one who accompanies her to the ladies’ room,
and assists her id necessary.
“I
don’t recall seeing or hearing Bolet do anything of these right from the start.
And as you have correctly pointed out, the elections is still a year away so Leni
doesn’t really need a ‘political close-in.’ Neither does she have a position or
job in government which involves politics.”
