Cybercrime Law author Sen. Edgardo Angara
yesterday clarified that liking and sharing a libelous comment in social
networking sites like Facebook will not make the “liker” or “sharer” liable as long
as he or she does not conspire to commit the crime.
“No, because he is not the author of that
libelous comment,” Angara said in Filipino during a forum in the Senate.
Angara said a netizen may only be held
liable if the person who liked or shared a libelous comment on Facebook
had conspired with the author.
Amid strong protests against the libel
provision, Angara welcomed the proposed decriminalization of libel not only for
this cybercrime law, but the libel law itself. ###
