Before anything else, Mar Roxas should reveal
his funding source for his campaign as an independent senatorial bet. Here’s
why:
As I had written in a related blog yesterday,
Mar has NOT YET convincingly proven that he is neither involved or is a
beneficiary of the anomalies and questionable events that had occurred during
his stint as Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary.
Like the P1.3 billion overprice in the
purchase of police vehicles, the absence of a detailed accounting of ‘Yolanda’
funds turned over to him for the victims and his total inaction on the illegal
numbers game jueteng.
I am aware that Mar is a scion of the known
old rich clan Aranetas. But think about
these, people:
I consulted two people, a strategist of a
politician and a former politician. They
both told me that for an independent Senate bid nowadays, P250 to P300 million SHOULD
BE THE BAREST MINIMUM BUDGET of the candidate. And they emphasized that it may NOT
EVEN BE ENOUGH, since it would be a nationwide campaign.
Now, anybody correct me if I’m wrong: Since
he lost in the presidential polls in 2016, Never has it been reported in media
that Mar has had any huge business/es that earn tens or hundreds of millions of
pesos, or dollars monthly or yearly. Neither
has it been known that Mar has had any multi-million or billion business
transaction.
And an immensely successful but perennially low
profile businessman who knows the Aranetas personally told me that the clan isn’t
as rich as they used to be in the ‘60s until the ‘80s. He expressed serious doubt that the Aranetas
can still readily allocate or spend P300 million or more just for a political
campaign with no clear signs of a SURE WIN!
So again, Mar, where will the money come
from? Anybody’s welcome to comment.
