Anakpawis Rep. Rafael
Mariano has asked the Aquino administration why it is not doing anything to
stop the unreasonable electricity rates
Mariano said instead of
protecting consumer interests, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC( authorized
the rate hike this month.,
Starting this month, Meralco
will increase its generation and transmission charges by 12 centavos per
kilowatt-hour (kWh) and will also start collecting “bill deposit” charge from consumers.
Generation and transmission charges will be P5.50 per kWh from the previous P5.40 per kWh. Systems loss charge will also increase by two centavos per kWh.

The 12 centavos per kWh
power rate hike that will reflect in the October billing is equivalent to P11.35
increase for customers consuming 100 kWh per month, P23.70 for households
consuming 200 kWh and additional P35.56 for those using 300 kWh.
Customers consuming 400 kWh
and 500 kWh monthly will pay additional P47.41 and P59.26, respectively.
The latest round of power
rate hike is due to higher generation charges collected by the
Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) during the supply month
of September. 30
