CONCERN, NOT POLITICS

Here’s something light for a change, people.

She’s not running for any post in the 2019 polls but it seems there’s no stopping former President and now Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo from doing what she thinks would be beneficial to others.

A firm believer in the youth as the hope of the future, Speaker Arroyo has just rewarded 10 outstanding students from all over the country with an educational tour of Hong Kong and Guangzhou Province in China for the latest trends in leadership and governance. The students were also given lectures on trade and commerce, plus the history of China’s phenomenal growth as a world economic power in the last 40 years.

No funds from the House of Representatives were spent on the students’   tour.  Expenses were paid out of Speaker Arroyo’s personal funds and by the Boao Forum for Asia, which welcomed the students to the 2018 Boao Youth Summit.

The students included Donald Andrade, Bacolod; Edward Ente, Malabon; Regine Perania, Iloilo; Carl Borerros, Mark Alejandro and Edmar Raboy,  all with disabilities; Jhoel Asis, Davao; Bin Magangcong, Marawi;  Melanie Jocson, Pampanga, and Shandece Gerarcas, Batangas.

I was told that other pro-youth and pro-poor activities have also been scheduled until Speaker Arroyo ends her term in June next year.

Personally, here’s hoping that both outgoing and aspiring politicians in next year’s election emulate the Speaker.
