I just had a brief chat with a political
strategist I regularly consult, and we both agreed on one thing: The only possible reasons for the continued news
blackout on the ongoing recount of votes covered by Bongbong Marcos’ protest
against Leni Robredo.
First and foremost is Bongbong has substantially
overtaken the lead of Leni. And the people running the recount are having a
hard time checking how did this happen. Second is indisputable cheating or fraud
continue to be discovered.
The strategist and I agreed that if there’s
nothing to hide or nobody to protect, there’s no sane reason for the continued news
blackout. Like me, he finds as illogical the argument by others that lifting the
news blackout and releasing details to the public might result in prejudgment
by the people of the results.
I told the strategist: “On the contrary, it’s
the news blackout which is triggering a public prejudgment of the recount. The people
think recount officials are trying to hide something. If there’s no bullshit to
hide, then there’s no reason to keep the people in the dark.”
The strategist gave me a thumb’s up and a
high-five. Before we parted, he told me:
”Don’t stop. Hang on tight.”
