Here are some key
points in the speech of PNoy in an anti-corruption forum in Davos , Switzerland
Judge for yourselves,
guys.
PNOY said he became
President after almost a decade of absentee leadership, obviously referring to
his predecessor Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (GMA).
In fairness to GMA, let
me just cite one proof which BELIES this:
GMA was the president
when the world financial crisis strucxk (If I remember correctly, it was in
2007). But whether or not PNoy ADMITS IT, the Philippines
was STABLE ENOUGH NOT TO GO INTO RECESSION unlike other big countries,
including the US
I’m not an economist
but I’ll still dare say that you don’t achieve economic stability if you’re an
absentee leader.
PNoy said roughly ten
percent of the total population looked for greener pastures abroad during GMA’s
term. He had better have a mountain
of DOCUMENTARY
For the simple reason
that millions of Filipinos have been facing tough times and leaving for abroad
to work since the presidency of his mother Cory.
I’m sure that we have
all not forgotten, among others, that it was then when we experienced 10 to
12-hour BROWNOUTS, the WORST TO DATE in our history,
It was also during
Cory’s term that the price of galunggong, until then one of the CHEAPEST varieties
of fish, rose from a just a few pesos to more than P50 per kilo.
So to even insinuate
that 10 percent of the Filipino people
left for jobs in other countries during GMA’s presidency is not only GROSSLY
UNFAIR but a MALICIOUS and PATHETIC DISTORTION of facts.
PNoy said now, whenever
an overseas worker comes back, the common question is not anymore, “How did you
manage to get out,” but rather, “When are you coming home for good?”
But he DID NOT CITE ANY
BASIS. No names, places, dates or sources of information. In other words, SAYS
WHO?
Pnoy said his
government has poured funds into irrigation, arterial roads, genuine certified
seeds, research into higher-yielding varieties, and other technologies.
Again, NO DETAILS.
Not even the exact
location of one irrigation system or arterial road, no specific volume and kind
of seeds and no name of the one who supposedly certified these, no names of the
supposed researchers into higher-yielding varieties of rice, no location of the
research, no specific amount of the supposed funds and no proof that the money
was indeed released and had been received by the beneficiaries.
PNoy boasted of the
continued gains in the stock market, the supposed growth in the gross domestic
product and the alleged two consecutive ten-place jumps in the World Economic
Forum’s annual competitiveness rankings index.
Two simple questions:
Can Pnoy or any of his
boys RIGHTFULLY CLAIM that these economic achievements were due to their OWN
program or ideas, and not from those they inherited from GMA’s presidency?
Can they cite even one
original economic brainchild of their own since they came into power?
Pnoy
said he has ignited a virtuous cycle wherein crimes do not go unpunished. Three
points:
The
numbers game JUETENG is still ILLEGAL. But not once has PNoy ordered an
honest-to-goodness crackdown on it. Not even one jueteng lord has been
investigated or arrested.
The
killing of a Dutch priest who is a known critic of the Aquino-Cojuangco owned
Hacienda Luisita months ago REEMAINS UNSOLVED.
Nothing
has been heard of again about the disappearance of some 200 container vans of
highly taxable goods. Earlier media reports had said a person very close to
PNoy is allegedly involved in the issue.
As
I’ve said in the beginning of this piece, this time you be the judge, guys.
