Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV may lose his
seat in the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) after his public spat with Senate
President Juan Ponce Enrile last Wednesday.
Trillanes may
also lose his committee chairmanships since he is now with the minority.
In a radio iinterview, Enrile said
Trillanes owes his SET seat to their group.
"We can
actually remove him from the SET, because yung position niya (SET) is alloted
to our group. Because for every four senators, we're entitled to one membership
in the SET," he said.
Under the
Constitution, the SET judges all contests relating to the elections, returns
and qualifications of its members.
"Kung
ika'y gusto mo talagang maging tunay na minority at hindi pagkukunwari lang
dahil nga may hinanakit ka na walang dahilan, gawin mo yun (let go of
committees). Prinsipyo ang pinaguusapan natin hindi ka-plastikan."
Enrile earlier said Trillanes sought
for a bigger budget for his oversight committee but was rejected.
Trillanes is chairman
of the following committees: Amateur Sports Competitiveness, Civil
Service and Government Reorganization, and the Select Oversight Committee on
Government Procurement.
"Civil
service and government reorganization, well he can handle that. We will give it
to him because we don't want to appear petty. Pero yung oversight committee
niya ay siguro we will consider that," Enrile said.###
