Sen.
Antonio Trillanes IV will face a backlash from Bicolanos in next year’s polls for blocking the passage of a bill to divide
the province of Camarines
Sur.
Deputy
Speaker and Camarines Sur Rep. Arnulfo Fuentebella in a radio interview, asked
Trillanes: “Why did you kill the bill? Why did you deny our rights under the
Constitution?”
Fuentebella
also disowned Trillanes, who claims to be from the Bicol region.
“He
is not from our province,” he said. “He says he is a Bicolano, but he is not
from Camarines Sur.
He says the people do not favor the split based on a survey. How can he say
that after a one-day visit? People are really angry, and many sent text
messages attacking his meddling.”
On
Monday, the Lakas CMD said it would not be endorsing Trillanes in next year’s
senatorial race.
Party
chairman and House Minority Leader Danilo Suarez confirmed that Lakas dropped Trillanes
for falsely accusing former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of lobbying Senate
President Juan Ponce Enrile for the passage of the Camarines Sur bill.
Presidential
spokesman Edwin declined to say if Trillanes has already been eased out of the
senatorial slate of the administration coalition amid the flak he received for
being disrespectful to Enrile and Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario.###
