‘ROBREDO’S 25 PERCENT PLEA CRUMBLING!’

I have just talked to a top-caliber but consistently low-profile lawyer/political strategist whose clients have NEVER LOST in any election. Reacting to Leni Robredo’s plea to the  Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) to disregard Solicitor General Jose Calida’s comment to reject her motion for reconsideration for a 25 percent ballot shading threshold, the lawyer said:

“Obviously, her case is CRUMBLING (emphasis mine). Ms. Robredo is also a lawyer. She knows, or she should know, that the NORMAL PROCEDURE is for a lawyer to prove that he/she has a better case or argument than the other party. But instead of attacking the points raised by SolGen Calida, she is EVADING OR SIDE-STEPPING IT.

“This could only mean that Ms. Robredo and her lawyers are running out of arguments to effectively counter SolGen Calida’s views.

“Otherwise, they should have just followed the usual process of coming out with a stronger argument than that of SolGen Calida and then leave everything to the appreciation and decision of the PET. Ms. Robredo's disrespect of SolGen Calida’s comment by asking that it be disregarded by the PET was surprising, to say the least.”
