Here are four reasons why the Aquino Government’s expected denial that the spying equipment it had bought fromGermany would be used on their critics and the Opposition is HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS:

First: IT’S NOT CLEAR who will use it. Malacanang and the Defense Department said it’s the military. But think about these, boys and girls:

Earlier reports had said the military’s main espionage body, the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) DOES NOT HAVE ANY HAND IN IT.

But now, a story in manilastandardtoday.com quoted the ISAFP chief aso0 saying the equipment will not be used on government critics and the Opposition.

Second: NO SPECIFIC TERROR THREAT, internal or external, has been reported in media in the past several months. I repeat, SPECIFIC, NOT GENERIC.

Third: The spying equipment comes at a time when the military itself had claimed that the strength of the New People’s Army (NPA) is at an all-time low of 4,000 plus from a high of more than 20,000 several years ago.

Fourth: The spying equipment comes at a time when ONE ANOMALY AFTER ANOTHER is being exposed by government critics, like the alleged $30 million extort try for the MRT-3 train supply contract and GROSS OVERPRICING in rice importations.

Defense Sec. Voltaire Gazmin was quoted in media as saying that the equipment is part of the modernization program of the Armed Forces.

And here’s the SCARIEST PART, PEOPLE:

The manilastandardtoday.com story said the equipment can monitor all devices emitting radio signals, including cell phones but, according to an ISAFP source,  COULD NOT be realistically used against terrorist groups.

The ISAFP source said the target has to be within 300 to 500 METERS at the most of the equipment.
