A CLOSE LOOK AT 2012

Allow me to suggest a way of looking at 2012 from a wider and truly encompassing point of view:

PNoy’s boys boast that 2012 is the best year so far for the Philippines.

Did the quality of life improve? Did wages rise? Did the prices of electricity, oil products and basic commodities and necessities like food drop? Did tuition and other costs of education go down?

PNoy’s boys have been trumpetting for days that the economy is at an all-time high.

Did you earn enough for your needs? Was it easier than before to find a job, or a second or third job to augment your income? How many, if any, new businesses do you know which opened up branches this year and provided jobs?

A supposedly dramatic increase in the number and volume of business of call centers and supposedly record remittances by overseas Filipino workers (OFW) are among the biggest factors behind the economic boom.

But as I had written in an earlier blog, OFWs are PAID by their FOREIGN EMPLOYERS, NOT BY BUSINESSES here in the Philippines. So if ever they earned more than before, It’s because of the ECONOMIES of the countries they’re working in.

AND NOT because of the Philippine economy.

As to call centers, I don’t have figures but I’m aware of the fact that they CATER MORE, if not totally, TO FOREIGN CLIENTS. So the money their clients spend comes from the economy of their home countries, NOT OF OURS!

Was our way of life in 2012 more convenient than before?

How many, if any, new roads, bridges railways or piers or similar infrastructure do you know or have heard of? WAS EVEN ONE BUILT, or IN NEAR COMPLETION until the year ends tomorrow at midnight?

Personally, I don’t know of any. Anybody correct me if I’m wrong.

Did peace and order improve as far as you know?  Do you feel safer now than before, in your home or out on the road or the streets, especially late at night?

PNoy and his boys have been tirelessly boasting that they’re against corruption.

Is it easier to transact now in government agencies, especially in the Bureau of Customs and Bureau of Internal Revenue? As far as you’re concerned, has bribery been removed, or even reduced considerably?

The warrant of arrest on Grace Padaca WAS NOT SERVED for some six months. When it was, PNoy himself paid for her bail, and readily declared her as INNOCENT as far as he’s concerned.

But now, Malacanang is DESPERATELY trying to remove Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia from office on the strength of a suspension order issued by the Office of the Preesident.

Even though to date, NO ONE HAS BELIED OR PROVEN WRONG, Garcia’s  defense that her suspension had violated the Local Government Code and Administrative Order No. 23.

There are a lot more issues, boys and girls. But think about the ones I had cited here. Then, judge the year 2012, and PNoy’s government, for yourselves. 30
